You will leave this super fun and informative class prepared to correctly identify and safely forage! We decided to break this class into 2 parts, Botany A and Botany B. You can take one or both! Each class will be 3 to 4 hours out in nature (Palos Verdes area - exact location will be sent to you). No prerequisite required. This class is for everyone from budding herbalists to master gardeners and anyone in between.

Botany A, Sept 22nd - The first eight plant families, you will learn how to correctly identify, harvest and how to use them!

Botany B October 6th - The second eight plant families, you will learn how to correctly identify, harvest and use them. We will be making medicine and eating herbs we find!

This class series is led by herbalist and forager Austin Robertson, who has spent the last 10 years immersing himself in the study of herbalism, wild plants, and foraging.

In this 2-part series, we will learn the 16 most common plant families through study, games, and a plant walk to identify and view the families in person. We will be in the field, putting your new skills to the test.

This class is based on author Tom Elpel's book *Botany in a Day* and his botany card games *Shanleya's Quest 1* and *2*. This class is great for anyone with an interest in plants who wants to develop an eye for identifying the most common plant families found around the world. We hope you can join us!

About Your Teacher:

Cash Robertson is a dedicated naturalist, clinical herbalist, and experienced forager. His passion for nature began in childhood, exploring the natural pockets of his suburban neighborhood and aspiring to become a herpetologist. His grandmother, who taught him about edible plants and mushrooms, instilled in him a profound love for nature that he expressed through his early poetry. Cash's interest in herbalism was further fueled by personal health challenges, which he successfully addressed with the aid of herbs and a deep connection to the natural world.

Cash pursued formal education in herbalism in California, completing the Green Wisdom Herbal Studies apprenticeship program and the Sage Country Herbs field botany and foraging program. He furthered his studies in North Carolina at The Eclectic School of Herbal Medicine's intensive program, followed by a six-month apprenticeship with renowned herbalist and author Matthew Wood after graduating in 2018. Over the past three years, Cash has immersed himself in the wild landscapes of southwest Montana. He has served as both a student and teacher at Green University, collaborating with Tom Elpel, author of "Botany in a Day," on numerous botany and foraging excursions.

In his personal time, Cash enjoys fishing, foraging, hiking, and embracing the adventures that the wild has to offer.
